Roman curtains - a beautiful and practical solution

Roman curtains appeared on our market relatively recently. However, they immediately managed to gain considerable popularity. What are they like? A fairly simple design, usually consisting of strips of dense canvas, which are stacked on top of each other. Such curtains are attached to the cornice, and the bottom can be decorated as you like: even with embroidery, even with ruffles, even with brushes. Between these fabric strips, wooden battens are laid for greater rigidity as well as decorativeness. 2. adjusting the desired height is very convenient, especially in the kitchen, when you need to free access to the windowsill and at the same time protect the room from light;
3. simple care - the design of the curtains is such that dust or grease is not collected in their folds (if it’s the kitchen), washing in the machine is possible if the hard wooden slats are previously separated from the fabric;
4. aesthetics - Roman curtains can be made of various fabrics, i.e. you can choose textiles directly for the general design of the room, which will always give more comfort than practical blinds;
5. safety - the intended weighting agents located in the lower part of the curtains will not allow them to develop in the case of drafts, which avoids the possibility of fire, even if the window in the kitchen is close to the stove

The choice of density, material and color

As already mentioned, the Roman curtain is a piece of fabric that covers the window completely. When it rises, thanks to the rigid rails, which are fixed on the wrong side, folds are formed. Initially, such curtains were intended as a means of protection from the scorching sun. A sufficiently dense material was used for this.

Windows were first draped during the Roman Empire, since then the design has not changed, it only acquired new modifications, including the use of new materials and decorations.
The modern design uses even light and transparent fabrics, such as organza, silk, chiffon with a hard edge at the edges to avoid deformation. Curtains made of light fabrics give the room a special sophistication and airiness.

The choice of density directly depends on the amount of light desired in the room. There are also specially impregnated fabrics with water-repellent, dust-repellent, as well as antistatic and antibacterial properties. There are even impregnations by which the curtains heat up less and do not support combustion at all.

Regarding the colors - the variety is huge. It all depends on the overall style of the interior. If, for example, the room is made in bright uniform colors, then curtains should be chosen light or even white.

If the interior design is colored, then the color of the curtains is matched to the tone of some significant decorative element.

Striped curtains are perfect for an interior built on contrast. The only thing that needs to be remembered - due to the design feature of Roman curtains, the integrity of the pattern on the folds cannot be preserved (if the curtains are raised). But you can look at the situation from the other side and find that it is this feature that can give a special charm, thus creating an original wave.
