Aristocratic luxury of baroque beds, design features

The design of the bedroom in the palace style is chosen by people with a refined taste. Despite the luxury and richness of the decoration, the room does not look elaborate, there are no unnecessary or random elements in it. The main decoration, of course, is the baroque bed, which has a smooth shape and intricate decor with an abundance of gilding and carving. Products can have headboards decorated with embroidered brocade, shiny satin or delicate velvet.

Characteristics of the style and its variations

The Italian direction of interior design and furniture dates back to the 16th century. Luxurious furnishings adorned the homes of wealthy aristocrats. Emerging manufacturing techniques of bent wooden elements were actively used by furniture masters. In the modern world, you can not find such furniture often, it is chosen only by wealthy connoisseurs of luxury.

Baroque cannot be confused with any other direction. The interior of such a bedroom will look like a single composition, where each element is an integral part of the whole picture. Furniture is distinguished by grace, sophisticated luxury, aristocracy.

Most often, in the Baroque style, spacious bedrooms are designed, as massive pieces of furniture do not fit into a cramped room. Furnishings are made of expensive materials: natural wood of valuable species, high-quality leather, eco-leather, expensive textiles, natural stone.

The main features that distinguish baroque furniture are:

  • When using simple forms, interior items have smooth outlines, smooth corners;
  • A large number of decorative gilded decorative elements;
  • The use of expensive materials and manual labor determines the high cost of finished products;
  • The decor uses carvings, inserts made of leather, natural stone, satin, brocade, velvet;
  • The bed frame is made of solid rubber wood, walnut, oak. Plastic parts, elements from MDF, chipboard are not used;
  • All interior items are massive and spectacular. Double beds have dimensions of 180x200,160x200, 200x200, 200x220 cm;
  • Beds must be made with large decorative headboards, gilded carved legs, often made in the form of lion or bird legs;
  • The refined bed is complemented by chic quilted bedspreads made of satin and brocade, which are in perfect harmony with curtains and a canopy.

Almost all models have headboards and footboards, which demonstrate exclusivity and luxury. Roll-out storage systems are not used in such models, since the bed is valued for beauty, not functionality. However, some products are equipped with hoisting mechanisms with internal storage systems.

Rococo

A variation of Baroque is the direction of Rococo design. It appeared later, it is not less decorative with the general external lightness of interior items. Unlike the baroque color scheme, which used a lot of dark tones, the interior of the rococo is decorated in bright colors.

Interior items were made in more modest sizes, rounded outlines and with lots of decor. The beds have high carved legs, frames are decorated with carvings, patination, gilding. The headboards are decorated with textile or leather inserts of white, beige, golden, light blue, light gray.

A distinctive feature of Baroque and Rococo furniture is the perfect shiny surface of the frames. All carved elements, joints, corners are carefully polished, covered with several layers of varnish.

The protective coating not only gives elegance, but also protects the surface of the wood from damage. The service life of lacquered furniture is significant.

Headboard Shape

The royal box with rich baroque decor necessarily has a unique headboard, it gives the product an individual style. A baroque product can have various color schemes. The color of the frame, as a rule, remains in the natural wood range or is decorated with fashionable white color. When decorating the head and foot, shades of burgundy, blue, pink, dark brown, beige, golden are used.

If textile or leather is used for decoration, they can have intricate patterns. Gilding of openwork carving helps gilding of individual elements. Here are the main varieties of headboards:

  • The most popular form of headboard is an imitation of a crown towering above the bed surface. The outer edge is made with decorative carvings, along the entire headboard there are curly cuts. In combined products, the lower part of the head is covered with fabric with or without a stitch, and the upper part is covered with gilding or varnish. Models made only of wood are decorated with openwork carvings all over the headboard;
  • Rectangular headboards with rounded corners have a small height. Most often, they are made of combined materials: wood carved frame in combination with textile inserts. The soft part of the head can be divided in the center by vertical decorative elements;
  • The semicircular headboard is most often used for light-colored models. It gives the bed romanticism and sophistication. The height of the head is significantly greater than the height of the foot, but their decor is made in the same style. Such headboards are often decorated with patination, painting, carved monograms.

For spacious rooms, you can choose models of beds with high massive headboards of dark color with gilding. In bedrooms of modest dimensions, models with low rectangular headboards in bright colors are installed.

Decor

One of the most luxurious decorative elements of the bed is the canopy. It can be made of finest silk, organza with embroidery, velvet. The canvas is fixed to a special holder or to the wall behind the head. The canopy ornament should match the pattern of the bedspread and curtain. The most common is a floral pattern, plain embroidery of floral themes.

An important element of the decor of the bed is an embroidered bedspread with small pillows. The bedspread is chosen to match the basic color of the bed, complementing it. Glitter fabrics, gold embroidery, stitch are preferred. Small pillows can have tassels or fringe, they are located near the head of the head.

A wide variety of fabrics and leathers are used to decorate the head of the Baroque beds. To trim the frame and highlight decorative carved elements, 18 carat gold is used. Gilded legs give the bed a luxurious look. Most threads are hand-made, which explains the high cost of finished products. Modern beds are equipped with lifting mechanisms that make it convenient to use the built-in drawers for storing linen and bedding.

If you value luxury and want to create a palace atmosphere in your bedroom, then choose a baroque bed. Decorated with carvings, gilding and inlays of delicate leather, velvet or silk, it will become a decoration of the room and a symbol of your well-being, refined taste.
